MUNCIE, IN—Delaware County will once again celebrate inclusion, joy, and community connection with the return of the Delaware County Special Needs Prom Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Horizon Convention Center.
The event is expected to welcome more than 1,000 attendees, including people with special needs, their families, caregivers, and volunteers from across the region.
The Special Needs Prom has become one of the area’s most anticipated and impactful community events, offering a fully accessible, high-energy prom experience complete with music, dancing, formal attire, and a supportive, celebratory atmosphere designed for all abilities.
The Mayor of Muncie is expected to attend, underscoring the community-wide importance of the celebration and its mission of inclusion.
Community leaders, sponsors, and invited guests will gather for an exclusive reception titled “A Suite Experience —The Spotlight on Special Needs Prom.” Held in a private suite overlooking the festivities, this experience will provide a unique vantage point to witness the joy of the prom while also learning about the future vision behind the event.
During “A Suite Experience,” organizers will unveil updates to their nonprofit initiative, “A Year of Belonging,” a strategic expansion of programming designed to provide year-round engagement opportunities for individuals with special needs. Attendees will hear new information about the annual calendar of inclusive events, aimed at fostering connection, dignity, and belonging well beyond prom night.
As part of its continued growth, the organization is also seeking new members for its Board of Directors, inviting community-minded leaders to help guide the next phase of its mission and expand its impact across Delaware County.
“This event is about so much more than one evening,” said Mindy Kemper, co-founder of Special Needs Prom. “The Special Needs Prom represents a growing movement in Delaware County to ensure that every individual feels seen, valued, and included. With ‘A Year of Belonging,’ we’re building on that momentum to create meaningful experiences all year long.”
The Delaware County Special Needs Prom is made possible through the support of local businesses, volunteers, and community partners committed to advancing inclusion and accessibility.
