As students arrived, an assortment of little white shuttle buses from school systems around the state could be seen in the parking lot behind the Horizon Convention Center. Each bus was emblazoned with the school corporation name. Delta Tau Delta chapters are divided into five geographic divisions. Every winter, members gather in a place chosen within their division to celebrate the Fraternity, brotherhood, and learn skills to help lead their chapters. The northern division consists of 38 chapters. Some of the schools represented included: Eastern Michigan University, Marietta College, University of Illinois, Kent State University, Marquette University, Ohio State University, University of Wisconsin, and many more. The Indiana Communities Institute addresses the modern challenges of economic development through community-based strategies for sustainable growth.  The institute’s efforts focus on strengthening communities throughout Indiana, and serves as a model for university economic development efforts across the nation. The institute is focused on improving the quality of life in communities through its Primacy of Place initiative. Earlier in December over 200 sheriffs, chief deputies and support staff from 72 Indiana counties attended the Indiana Sheriffs’Association (ISA) New Sheriffs’ School at the Horizon Convention Center in downtown Muncie. According to Steve Luce, executive director of the ISA, every 4 years, sheriffs are on an election and re-election cycle. By: Mike Rhodes— Muncie, Indiana—Approximately 127 people attended the 2018 Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Conference held at the Horizon Convention Center November 7-8. The Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS) provides services for individuals with developmental disabilities that enable them to live as independently as possible in their communities. BDDS assists individuals in receiving community support and residential services using a person-centered plan to help determine what services are needed and who can best provide them. The last NAACP  State Convention to be held in Muncie was in 1999 at the Roberts Hotel.
