YORKTOWN, IN – Thanks to reaching a significant fundraising goal, Yorktown Community Schools officially began construction on a series of major enhancements to the football stadium on June 2. The Yorktown Community Schools Foundation has successfully raised $750,000 in private contributions through its Onward Tigers Campaign, enabling this long-anticipated project to move forward.
The planned upgrades include installing high-quality synthetic turf, a modern press box, improved bleachers, and a new scoreboard—transforming the stadium into a state-of-the-art facility for both students and the community.
“This milestone is the result of our community coming together in support of our students,” said Dr. Greg Hinshaw, Superintendent of Yorktown Community Schools. “We deeply appreciate every person who contributed to this vision. The upgraded stadium will be a point of pride for the entire Yorktown area.”
Local support has been the driving force behind the campaign’s success. Significant contributions have come from Victory Auto Group, Northwest Towing, and IU Health. Other key sponsors include the Yorktown Youth Football League, WallTek Fine Finishes, Red Head Salon, and Amber’s Beauty School.
Many families and individuals also played a vital role in reaching the campaign’s goal. The Foundation acknowledged the generosity of the Smalstig, McDowell, Brooks, Kelly, Delk, Waterman, Ford, and McKay families, along with numerous others who chose to invest in the future of Yorktown athletics.
Campaign Chair Scott Smalstig emphasized the broader impact of the project: “This is more than a new field—it’s about creating opportunities for students, building school spirit, and showing what can be achieved when we come together.”
The stadium will be used beyond football, accommodating soccer, marching band, physical education, and other school and community events. The synthetic turf will allow for extended use in all weather conditions, enhancing the experience for students and community members alike.
“This project captures the mission of the Foundation—unifying our community to support students in meaningful ways,” said Eric Jones, Foundation President. “We’re proud of what’s been accomplished and excited for the lasting impact this facility will have.”
In addition to private donations, the school district itself is investing $1 million in the project, affirming its commitment to providing outstanding extracurricular and academic environments for students.
The Yorktown Community Schools Foundation and Onward Tigers Campaign Committee extend their heartfelt thanks to every donor and supporter, and they look forward to celebrating the construction progress with the community in the coming months.
