By: Mike Rhodes— MUNCIE, IN— The Boys & Girls Club of Muncie hosted the annual Trunk-or-Treat and Fall Festival at Heekin Park on Friday, October 28th.   Local businesses and organizations lined Heekin Park in Muncie to hand out candy and goodies as kids and families walked through the park dressed in costumes. Trunk-or-Treat was scheduled to begin at 4pm, and before the official start time, the line to get in was roughly 600 feet long.  Once opened, the line moved quickly as children and their parents rushed to get candy from 91 separate vehicle trunks filled with candy and goodies. MUNCIE—Ball Brothers Foundation has selected Ron Orebaugh, board chairman of Delaware County Soil & Water Conservation District (DCSWCD), as the 2016 winner of the John W. and Janice B. Fisher Governance Award. The award was presented at the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce’s dinner on October 27. The annual award recognizes the outstanding service of a board member to a Delaware County nonprofit organization. The winner is selected from nominations submitted to Ball Brothers Foundation. Muncie, IN—Between two trainings on September 27th and October 11th, The Community Reading Project now has sixteen volunteer tutors available to teach reading skills to struggling adult readers. The Community Reading Project is a new adult literacy program created to improve the quality of life for adults in Muncie and Delaware County by improving their reading skills. The program was founded in May by Marissa Rose and is supported through partnerships with United Way, the Ross Community Center, and others. By: Raven Brooks— Last fall 16 third graders took a fieldtrip through Muncie and through history. They then turned their experience into a project that is now on display at Maring-Hunt Library. The students first began working on the project in November of 2015, when their East Washington Academy teacher Dana Hartzell assigned it to them. “It was a project I had thought about doing for years,” said Hartzell.
